Defensive sprays are probably one of the best non-lethal, simple, reliable and inexpensive choices available today. As with any personal protection device, the more you know and train the more effective it will be.

This course is taught by Vicki Kawelmacher, a Certified OCAT (Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training) Instructor. Vicki will present principles, skills and techniques of understanding and using OC Pepper Spray. No matter what level of self defense skill you possess, pepper spray has a place in your personal defense strategy.

We will also be discussing why a taser and/or stun gun should be considered as you look at all your options and choices.

*Note: You will NOT be pepper sprayed.

  • Who

Pepper spray has a place in everyone’s arsenal. Pepper spray is legal in all 50 states but you must be 18 years of age to posses it.

  • What

Oleoresin: A mixture of resin and an essential oil occurring in various plants.

Capsicum: Several varieties of the pepper with pungent fleshy pods, i.e. Chili peppers, cayenne peppers, etc.

Capsaicin: A bitter, strongly irritating, white crystalline alkaloid, C18 H27 NO3, extracted from capsicum. It’s the stuff that makes it HOT!

  • Where

Everyday, everywhere. It’s simple, you will either carry it or you won’t. Make it a habit to think about where you are going and what you can legally carry.

  • Why

The short answer, BECAUSE YOU ARE WORTH PROTECTING. Evil walks amongst us, we must have a plan and elevate our personal safety.

  • How

ALWAYS give your pepper spray a shake. Always use short bursts and never stay if you can retreat and get away. Aim for the face, a shot in the leg will be very ineffective
